Climb 89

An Everesting Event

Richland, WA December 6-7, 2024

Overview

Mark your calendar - Registration will open March 21st

Climb 89 is a hill repeat event that allows participants to 'Everest' on foot.

What is Everesting you say... it is performing enough repeats of a single climb such that the total elevation gain is at least the elevation of Mt. Everest (29,032 ft).

Why would anyone want to do this you ask... not sure, that's up to you!  BUT, if you complete it you can be admitted into the Everesting Hall of Fame (refer to https://everesting.cc/).

What if that is not desirable, possible, or you try and cannot finish that many repeats?  You are in luck as there are 5 other (shorter) mountains you can 'climb' and they vary in elevation from 3,531 ft to 24,787 ft.

Event Details

Participants in this event will travel out and back on the designated course as many times as they are able in the time allotted.  The course is 0.35 mile long (one-way) and has an 89 meter (292 feet) elevation gain.  Completion of 100 laps will result in a total elevation gain that essentially mimics the height of Mt. Everest.  Finisher awards will be distributed based on how many laps are completed, with the following categories: 100 laps (Mt. Everest - 29,032 ft), 85 laps (Annapurna III - 24,787 ft), 70 laps (Denali - 20,310 ft), 50 laps (Mt. Rainier - 14,411 ft), 29 laps (Mt. St. Helens - 8,363 ft), and 13 laps (Rattlesnake Mountain - 3,531 ft).  Details about each category is included in the below table.

Any participant that completes 100 laps and records/uploads their entire activity on Strava will be able to join the Everesting Hall of Fame (refer to https://everesting.cc/).  The course for this event is a segment on Strava (Climb 89 - 36079116) and was established precisely so a single Strava activity that includes 100 repeats of the segment will qualify as an Everesting.

Each participant will be provided a number bib that has a timing chip on the back, which must be worn during the entire event.  A timing system will be located along the course and will be the primary method of tracking the participants progress. At least 30 minutes prior to starting the event and immediately after completion, participants must check-in with race officials at the start/finish area.  Your results may be impacted if you don’t check-in or don’t wear the timing chip provided to you.

There are multiple start times available, based on the goals and availability of each participant.  In each case, the participants can choose whatever time they want when they register, but they need to check in at the start/finish area and receive their bib no later than 30 minutes prior to the start time.  A pre-race briefing will take place 10-15 minutes before each start time.  The starting times are Fri 8:00 am, Fri 12:00 pm, Fri 4:00 pm, Sat 8:00 am, and Sat 12:00 pm.
